City of Tartu visits Hamburg's first fully electric bus

Our project partner, the City of Tartu (Estonia), visited Hamburg to test the first battery electric bus operating in the so called “Treppenviertel” in Blankenese. The VHH as the local transport operator (and associated partner of BSR) and representatives of the City of Hamburg accompanied the group for explanations and future cooperation.

The City of Tartu is going to pilot an electric midi-bus from September 2018 on between their railway station and the central bus station. The six kilometer circle is in some aspects comparable to the e-bus route in Hamburg Blankenese. As the route requirements and the used bus size are similar a meeting between the two project partners and the VHH was arranged to exchange experiences.
After a short presentation about the VHH and the technical parameter of the e-bus the group hopped on the bus for a ride through the city district. The bus ride gave the opportunity to interview the bus driver about his personal view on the technique and to experience the driving behaviour of the electric bus: Less noise, fast acceleration and no exhaustion.
After the ride the e-bus needed to be charged, a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the charging infrastructure and discuss the specialties of it. The tested e-bus is a Rampini Alé E80 manufactured in 2016 in Italy with a range of up to 150 km.
To set up the pilot in Tartu the participants agreed on exchanging information and a consultancy by the experts from Hamburg in the nearer future.
